OKMULGEE, Okla. — Mvskoke Media interviewed Muscogee (Creek) Nation Principal Chief James Floyd regarding the Campaign Finance Disclosure Act and Public Officials Ethics Commission law that was passed by the National Council in 2015.
Floyd said he expects the commission to be active and operational shortly after the candidate filing period July 17-20.
The commission is responsible for production, distribution, collection and preservation of the campaign contributions and expenditure reports required by MCN Code to be filed by candidates.
Per the law, the commission consists of three members, one appointed by the principal chief, one by the Council speaker and the third by the other two appointments.
Floyd said he made his appointment to the Commission in June and that the Council appointment is pending.
Mvskoke Media contacted Speaker Lucian Tiger regarding his appointment and did not receive a response as of press time.
MCN Controller Linda Roe said in a written statement to Mvskoke Media that the Commission has not yet submitted a budget. She said funding would either be included in the 2018 Comprehensive Annual Budget that is sent to Council for approval or be requested from Council through a special appropriation depending on timing.
Roe said she expected the 2018 CAB to be submitted to Council by the end of July.
Mvskoke Media will provide continuing coverage of the Commission throughout the election.
