Council approval, additional permits required for smoke shop
OKMULGEE, Okla. — A joint session of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation National Council’s Business, Finance and Justice Committee and the Health, Education and Welfare Committee was held May 16 at the Mound Building in Okmulgee.
BFJ/HEW addressed the following legislation, the interpretation of which is attributed to language in the bills:
TR 17-072 Approving beer sales at the Tulsa Creek Indian Community Smoke Shop. Reps. Lucian Tiger and Robert Hufft sponsored the resolution, which passed 5-0.
TCIC requested approval to sell beer at their smoke shop. The legislation states that the community will need to obtain all necessary licenses and permits through MCN and the State of Oklahoma, as well as form a limited liability corporation to protect the community and the Nation’s sovereign immunity.
The smoke shop is located at 1614 E. 81st St., Tulsa, OK.
Reps. Pete Beaver, Adam Jones, James Jennings and Rufus Scott were absent.
The legislation passed through the joint session will move on to be addressed during the May 20 Council regular session.
