Dome lighting approved during extraordinary session

OKMULGEE, Oklahoma — A BFJ committee meeting was held Feb. 4, immediately followed by an extraordinary session of the MCN National Council at the Mound Building in Okmulgee.

The Council addressed the following legislation, the interpretation of which is attributed to the language in the bills:

BFJ convened and approved the FY 2019 Comprehensive Annual Budget (3-0), which was then addressed during the extraordinary session following BFJ.

Extraordinary Session

NCA 19-025 Authorizing a $9,368.43 appropriation to fund the costs associated with replacing court lighting for the multi-purpose building. Rep. Lucian Tiger sponsored the amendment, which passed 14-0.

The amendment allows for the appropriation of funds for the installation of court lighting at the multi-purpose building (Mvskoke Dome), which would provide sufficient lighting to host future athletic events.

The funding source for the project will be the capital improvement fund.

NCA 19-026 Amending NCA 18-203 (a law of the MCN approving the comprehensive annual budget for the remainder of FY 2019 and providing for appropriations). Tiger sponsored the amendment, which passed 14-0.

Per the MCN constitution, Principal Chief James Floyd prepared and introduced the annual budget for the remainder of FY 2019, which included a 4% salary increase.

NCA 19-028 Appropriating $850,000 to the Mound Building oversight committee for phase three of the Mound Building renovation. Tiger sponsored the amendment, which passed 13-0 with Rep. Mark Randolph abstaining.

The amendment provides funds to begin the final phase of the Mound Building renovation.

Renovations include a new HVAC system, roof replacement, interior renovations, electrical expenses and restored chairs and a new council table for the auditorium.

The funding source for the project will be the capital improvement fund.

Rep. Adam Jones was absent.

The legislation will go on to the principal chief for signature.

Legislation passed during an extraordinary session is addressed by the full Council and does not need to go to the regular session for approval.
