OKMULGEE, Oklahoma– Muscogee (Creek) Nation Office of the Election Board mailed out absentee ballots for the upcoming election on Nov. 22 at 10 a.m. CST.
According to Election Board Manager Nelson Harjo, it takes 3-5 business days for the vendor to send out the ballots.
“The average person should receive their ballot in the mail by Nov. 27,” Harjo said.
With the new legislation that was passed, it is illegal to solicite someone’s absentee ballot by being on a prescribed listing of approved people to handle another persons absentee ballot. For example, a candidate or representative of the candidate’s campaign would not be allowed to go and collect absentee ballots from voters, according to Harjo.
Also with the new legislation, watchers are now required to be citizens and registered to vote within the MCN. This was specifically done so that if any crime is committed then MCN will have jurisdiction.
Early voting will take place on Dec. 11-12 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the following places; Tulsa Indian Community, Okemah Indian Community, Eufaula Indian Community and Okmulgee Indian Community.
If you do not receive an absentee ballot through the mail by Nov. 30, contact the election board at 918-732-7631 on Dec. 2.
General Election to be held Saturday, Dec. 14 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at all polling places.
