Department funding increase addressed due to increased enrollment
OKMULGEE, Oklahoma — The Muscogee (Creek) Nation National Council held an emergency session July 17 at the Mound Building in Okmulgee.
The Council addressed the following legislation, the interpretation of which is attributed to language in the bills:
NCA 18-106 Authorizing an appropriation of $318,000 to the MCN Employment and Training – Vocational Tribal and Incentive Grants Program for Fiscal Year 2018 Budget. Rep. James Jennings sponsored the amendment, which passed 10-3 with Reps. Adam Jones, Patrick Freeman and Travis Scott voting against it.
In recent years, the number of students enrolled at the MCN College of the Muscogee Nation, Oklahoma State University-Institute of Technology and vocational/technical schools has increased.
According to information provided, around 373 students would not receive funding for fiscal year 2018 spring and summer tribal and incentive grants under the current amount of funding.
Reps. Thomasene Yahola Osborne and Darrell Proctor were absent.
