Repairs needed for community buildings

OKMULGEE, Oklahoma — A Muscogee (Creek) Nation National Council Health, Education and Welfare and Land, Natural Resources and Cultural Preservation Committee held a joint committee meeting Feb. 19 at the Mound Building in Okmulgee.

All legislation passed during the session will go before the full Council Feb. 23 for vote. Mvskoke Media will provide coverage of this session.

HEW/LNC addressed the following legislation, the interpretation of which is attributed to language in the bills:

NCA 19-033 Authorizing an $300,000 appropriation for the MCN Community Research and Development Department to provide necessary maintenance and repairs to the Nation’s chartered community buildings. Rep. Randall Hicks sponsored the amendment, which passed 6-0.

MCN is responsible for the general maintenance and repairs of the Nation’s buildings and facilities, including those used by Chartered Communities.

CR&D is requesting the appropriation to continue to provide the daily maintenance and repairs to the chartered community buildings.

Rep. Patrick Freeman, Mark Randolph and Rufus Scott were absent.
