Felony complaint alleges theft from art gallery

Former Redstick gallery employee accused of embezzlement

OKMULGEE, Oklahoma — A complaint alleging theft of the Nations funds was filed against Cora Watson in the MCN District Court on April 1.

According to court documents, Watson is accused of taking money from the MCN owned Red Stick gallery for personal gain.

The Red Stick Gallery is an art gallery featuring authentic Mvskoke made items available for purchase.

‘The Defendant did willfully embezzle funds from the Muscogee (Creek) Nation’s  Red Stick Gallery located at the Omniplex, at a value of $12,128,’ the complaint said.

MCN Prosecutor Shelly Harrison filed the complaint, which alleges Watson obtained the funds within the jurisdiction of the MCN on or about April 1, 2017, through Jan. 7 2019.

The charge is categorized as a felony, which according to MCN code is punishable by imprisonment for up to three years, and or a fine of not more than $15,000.

Watson is set to appear in court on May 20.
