OKMULGEE, Oklahoma — According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons website, former Muscogee (Creek) Nation Second Chief Roger Barnett was released from prison Jan. 3.

Barnett was sentenced May 5, 2015 to 33 months in federal prison and ordered to pay $211,880 in restitution to MCN for embezzling tribal funds. He pleaded guilty to the charges in October 2014.

During his sentencing, Barnett was also banned from gaming facilities for three years and required to attend gambling addiction counseling.

    I hope Mvskoke Media and the citizens of the Nation keep up with this to see that Mr. Barnett pays the Nation what it’s owed. And he should never be allowed to run for public office again, ever.
