Department holds annual clean up event

OKMULGEE, Okla. — The Muscogee (Creek) Nation Environmental Services Department held their annual Earth Day event June 16.

The original event was rescheduled from April 21 due to rain.

“We decided to do it right before the Festival this year because we were hoping it would be a warm day, and we got it,” Environmental Services Manager James Williams said.

The temperature reached into the 90-degree range during the event. Environmental Services made precautions to ensure that their volunteers stayed cool and hydrated.

Volunteers from various MCN departments attended the event and divided into groups to help clean up the Okmulgee and MCN Complex area.

“We appreciate all the Creek Nation departments for letting their folks off this afternoon to help us be good stewards of the land,” Williams said.

Environmental Services holds two clean up events throughout the year. The next event will be held in November in honor of National Recycle Day.
