Darrell Proctor II/MNYC Speaker

OKMULGEE, Oklahoma — Hensci! This month has been busy for the Mvskoke Nation Youth Council (MNYC).

The month of July started out with the National UNITY conference. The conference was held in San Diego, California from July 5-9. MNYC had 17 members who attended the conference. While there, the members were able to share some of our Mvskoke culture by singing Mvskoke hymns on cultural night. While in San Diego, the MNYC members also had an opportunity to attend the Indigenous Bowl where Blayne Allen, an MNYC member, played and won an MVP award.

We would like to take the time to say congratulations to four Mvskoke youth who are doing great things for our tribe and for Indian Country. Jay Fife, Nancy Deere-Turney, Ashleigh Fixico and Maddie Lamb were UNITY 25 under 25 recipients. We would also like to say congratulations to former Miss MCN Brittany McKane who was elected to a second term as UNITY Executive Committee representative for the Southern Plains region. Mvto to our Mvskoke youth for representing our Nation so well in California!

On July 12, the MNYC choir was invited to the Inter-Tribal Conference held at River Spirit Casino Resort and sang during the banquet as a part of the entertainment. We appreciate the opportunity to showcase our Mvskoke hymns and culture and look forward to future opportunities to sing and educate others about the Mvskoke people.

As we wind down a busy summer, we would just like to say thank you again to those who support us and thank you to Principal Chief James Floyd, Second Chief Louis Hicks and the National Council for your constant support and willingness to work with us. We cannot express how appreciative we are for your encouragement. We look forward to continuing to be a presence throughout the Nation and we welcome any opportunities to make a difference.

Mvtekusen makit! Mvto!
