Darrell Proctor II/MNYC Speaker
OKMULGEE, Oklahoma — Hensci! It has been another eventful month for the Mvskoke Nation Youth Council (MNYC). We had a great turn out for the Mvskoke Youth Games. We had representation from the communities of Wetumka, Coweta and Okmulgee, as well as members of the MNYC. We would like to thank all of the volunteers who came out and did a great job. We are already looking forward to next year’s games.
We have good news regarding three of our MNYC members. Alex Davis, a sophomore at Jenks, won a scholarship from the Intertribal Agriculture Council to attend their annual meeting in Las Vegas. Alex was one of 50 youth to receive a travel scholarship.
Jadyn Williams, a member of the Glenpool Native American Student Association (NASA), took the Gen-I Challenge and created the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Veterans Project to honor, pay tribute to and memorialize Mvskoke veterans. She also created a video for her MCN Honor Guard Project. Jayden has been asked to speak to the World War I Native American Warriors committee during their 2018 commemoration.
Iesha Phillips, our Jr. Miss MCN and a senior at Jenks High School, was selected as a QuestBridge finalist and was matched with Oberlin College and will receive a full-ride scholarship. Congratulations to all of them on their accomplishments!
We have been planning for our second annual Christmas Gift Bingo. It will be held on Dec. 16 at the Mvskoke Dome with the doors opening at 1 p.m. This year the bingo packs are $10 with a special blackout game for a grand prize! We will also have concession available throughout the event. All proceeds will go towards our service learning projects and leadership opportunities. We hope to see you there!
