Darrell Proctor II/MNYC Speaker
OKMULGEE, Oklahoma — The month of September has been a very quiet time for the Mvskoke Nation Youth Council (MNYC). We have not had any events this month except for our regular meeting. At our meeting, youth council member Karen McGirt helped conduct a presentation on suicide prevention. The presentation involved our youth doing an activity that focused on our strengths. Youth council member Iesha Phillips also provided materials and resources for the presentation. Karen and Iesha serve as WeRNative ambassadors.
MNYC members Tafv Sanders, Charlie Mason and Laura Mason are coordinating a project for the month of October called “Socktober.” They are trying to collect 500 pairs of socks and other essential items for homeless youth and families. The items can be dropped off at the MNYS Office, the Beggs Middle and High School offices and with the Okmulgee High School National Honor Society. The project will end on Oct. 31.
Oct. 1 marked the third year anniversary of the Mvskoke Nation Youth Services. We greatly appreciate Nancy Mason and her staff and all they do to serve the Mvskoke youth.
