OKMULGEE, Oklahoma — Hollywood film producer and studio executive Harvey Weinstein has made headlines in recent days for allegations of sexual harassment and assault, some stories dating back several years.
Stories of sexual harassment and assault in the film industry have flooded social media, even causing concern about a culture of sexual harassment in the workplace for actors, actresses, directors and producers.
The Muscogee (Creek) Nation employee policies and procedures includes a section on sexual harassment.
According to a copy of the policies available on the MCN website, ‘The Muscogee (Creek) Nation is committed to provide all employees with a work environment free of sexual harassment. Sexual harassment in any form is unacceptable. Any employee involved in sexual harassment shall be subject to disciplinary action, including discharge.’
The policy outlines a complaint procedure for documenting the complaint and reporting it to management and Human Resources.
In 2014, the National Council unanimously passed NCA 14-184, adding a new chapter to MCN Code Annotated regarding sexual harassment.
The law states sexual harassment will not be tolerated and, ‘Anyone found to have sexually harassed another person will be subject to disciplinary action that may include an apology, counseling, transfer of duties or dismissal.’
