Amendment of code for certain position’s compensation discussed in meeting

OKMULGEE, Oklahoma — A Muscogee (Creek) Nation National Council Business, Finance and Justice Committee meeting was held Jan. 17 at the Mound Building in Okmulgee.

Audio of the session is available at: http://www.mcnnc.com.

All passed legislation will go before full Council during the regular session Jan. 26.

BFJ addressed the following legislation, the interpretation of which is attributed to language in the bills:

TR 19-011Confirming the nomination of Clay A. Darnell as the Controller for the MCN. Rep. Adam Jones sponsored the resolution, which passed 4-0.

The resolution confirms the nomination of Darnell as the Nation’s Controller. Darnell’s term is to begin upon confirmation by the MCNNC and run concurrent with the term of the current principal chief.

NCA 19-009 Amending MCN Code Annotated Title 31, Section 3-101 titled, “Compensation for certain officers or employees of the MCN.” Rep. Robert Hufft sponsored the amendment, which passed 4-0.

MCNCA Title 31, Section 3-101 states no persons’ compensation made with MCN funds is to exceed the amount established by ordinance for the principal chief.

The section lists certain professions and positions that are exempt from this mandate; NCA 19-009 adds the Public Gaming Commission Executive Director position to this list.

BFJ approved the funding source for all referred legislation as interest on the Permanent Fund and Economic Development Fund.

Details of this legislation can be found in Mvskoke Media’s coverage of the Health, Education and Welfare Committee, Land, Natural Resources and Cultural Preservation Committee and joint committee sessions.
