Anderson accepted into Disney College Program

OKMULGEE, Okla. — Forgive Alex Anderson if she has a hard time wiping a smile off her face, because she will be spending her summer and fall at the ‘Happiest Place on Earth.’

Anderson, currently majoring in public relations at the University of Oklahoma, has been accepted into the Disney College Program. The program allows students to live and work at Walt Disney World in Orlando while having the option to take classes to continue their higher education requirements.

The highly competitive program takes in nearly 40,000 applicants for each session with only around 7,000 being accepted. The process includes three stages that you have to pass: a written application, a computer interview and finally a telephone interview.

The application process for Anderson was a lesson in perseverance.

“I actually applied for the Spring 2016 program. I didn’t get in and just took it with a grain of salt, thought about what I could better myself in,” said Anderson. “I knew the phone interview is kind of what was holding me back, so I applied for Fall 2017 just to practice. But I got in, and I knew it was something I couldn’t say no to.”

Anderson is not the only one in her family to make her mark. Her grandfather is Muscogee (Creek) Nation Living Legend and Oklahoma Coaches Hall of Famer Perry Anderson, and her father Greg Anderson, is currently the MCN Secretary of Education.
